How do I keep my Andis pet clippers in top shape?
I am new to this. I have 3 poodles and have invested in a very expensive clipper and wondered if anyone had any suggestions for keeping the blades sharp? Are there any tricks to cleaning and oiling them. I have an Andis AGC?
How do you sharpen the blades? Do you have to have it professionally done?
We have 4 standard poodles, so I can relate- get some Kool Lube spray- and spray this on the blades when they get hot. I would also make sure that you have 2 of each blade you use (2 #10’s, etc.)- that way, when one gets hot (or if it breaks you won’t have a partially groomed poodle)-
You can also get some liquid blade cleaner- after each use, dip the blade in the liquid while the blade is running. This will also clean it. (Be sure not to dip the motor in it.)-
Keeping the blade clean is the key- you will still also have to sharpen them periodically. After you are done, take the blade off and get the hair off.
Another thing- most groomers will recommend that you only cut clean hair- cutting through dirty hair will supposedly dull your blades- but we tend to cut dirty anyway- rather than wash hair you aren’t going to keep!
