Brake Dog Food
What do you think of the Brake-fast food bowl?
My 6 month old ESS (English Springer Spaniel) eats tremendously fast. We have hand-fed him and scattered it on the floor but are looking for a dish that might work just as well to slow him down. Has anyone tried the Brake-fast dog food bowl designed to “slow the chow down”?
We’ve done the cookie sheet feeding but are looking for a more portable container as we are often at someone else’s home for dinner & toting a cookie sheet isn’t all too convenient.
He has figured out how to take objects out of his bowl in order to get to the food. Tennis balls, rocks, my hand – all get taken out so he can inhale is food.
We have tried it for one of our dogs, and it did work for us, however you have to get the right size, because if you get to big of a one the dog can easily eat around the things (not sure what they are called) that stick up and they will then be able to eat almost just as fast as if they weren’t there, this happened to us the first time, they figured it out pretty fast, but once we got the right size it works well. Be aware though I have heard that some dogs have learned to lick it up so to speak, something like that, they have learned little tricks but either way they are still eating slower, I personally like it
It’s a good thing then that those things in that bowl can’t be taken out. Though if your dog has learned tricks to eat fast he may learn tricks to get around those things in the bowl no matter if you get him the correct size or not, though it is harder for them. and I still think it works really well, maybe you could get one or two of those toys that they have to work at to get the food, the dog only gets a little at a time. There are many kinds, some they have to work harder the others and others makes it easier, but they still only get a little at a time but just remember not to get one with really large holes that the food can just pour out of, or maybe feed him smaller meals spaced out during the day instead of just at once? hmm I’m running out of Ideas, but I’ll post more if I think of any
